Sigma, Thella Kagitham and Don't Trouble the Trouble Stumble at the Box Office
Sigma, Thella Kagitham and Don't Trouble the Trouble all failed to draw Telugu audiences in good numbers last weekend, so Tollywood is still waiting for its next hit.
Tollywood has just been through a rough weekend at the ticket counters. Three new releases, Sigma, Thella Kagitham and Don't Trouble the Trouble, opened in theatres. None of them could bring Telugu audiences in meaningful numbers. Collections were weak across the board, and the industry is once again counting misses instead of hits.
Sigma, starring Sandeep Kishan, carried a lot of attention before release. The film is directed by Vijay's son and was promoted aggressively ahead of opening day. That buzz did not turn into footfalls, and the film fell well short of what viewers had hoped for.
Don't Trouble the Trouble, led by Malayalam actor Fahadh, met a similar fate. The film had a big promotional push. Reports say it drew support from Mahesh Babu on social media and from NTR at its pre-release event, and SS Karthikeya reportedly backed it as producer. The reviews were not positive, though, and Telugu viewers largely stayed away.
Thella Kagitham, which has young actors in the lead, also washed out. Other titles around the same time reportedly struggled as well, including Anakapalle and the Telugu dub of the Tamil hit Dorothy. The Paradise is said to have posted decent numbers despite criticism, but it could not reach the blockbuster status many expected.
The slump reportedly comes after a healthy August, when films such as Irumudi and Viswanath & Sons did well. For now, the wait for the next success goes on. Reports point to bigger releases such as Ranabaali and Jailer 2 coming up in the weeks ahead. Adarsha Kutumbam, a big film aimed at every section of the audience, is reportedly likely to be postponed.
