Sundeep Kishan warns trolls behind targeted campaign as Sigma hits screens
On the eve of Sigma's release, Sundeep Kishan accused unnamed people of running a paid wave of negative tweets against him and the film, warning that they had more to lose than him.
Sundeep Kishan has hit back at what he sees as a planned wave of negativity aimed at him and his new film Sigma. A day before the film reached theatres, the actor posted on X that he had noticed a stream of "targeted anti tweets" over the past few days. He claimed he knew exactly who was behind them and who was paying for them.
He did not name anyone, but the warning was clear. "Just reminding you that you have more to lose than me," he wrote. He ended the post in Telugu with "Direct ayipithe andaru dorikipitharu mari.. choosukondi", which roughly means that if things turn direct, everyone will get caught, so they should be careful.
Fans quickly backed the actor on social media. They urged him to ignore the hate and keep his focus on his work. Actor Jyotika also reportedly stood by him, writing that the truth always comes out.
Sigma is the first film directed by Jason Sanjay, son of Vijay. The heist entertainer opened in theatres today, October 2, in Tamil and Telugu, on Gandhi Jayanti. Sundeep leads a cast that includes Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt and Yog Japee, and Thaman S has composed the music. Reports say Sundeep plays Guru, a rogue treasure hunter who also works as a radio host.
The road to release was not smooth. The film was reportedly set to arrive on July 31 but was pushed back because Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, was due on July 23. Lyca Productions is said to be the producer, and Jason has reportedly called Sigma the story of a man fighting for his identity.
Early numbers look promising. Based on the first day's morning shows, the film has reportedly earned over Rs 1.08 crore net in India so far, with gross takings of about Rs 1.27 crore.
