Jason Sanjay says Vijay will be proud of Sigma, his first film as director

Jason Sanjay, son of Thalapathy Vijay, is about to release his first film as a director. Sigma, with Sundeep Kishan in the lead, comes to theatres on October 2, 2026. Before the release, Jason spoke about how he thinks his father will react once he watches it.

On Pearle Maaney's YouTube show, Jason described Vijay as a quiet man who never rushes an answer. He said his father can take around 10 seconds to reply to a simple question. The pause is so long that Jason sometimes checks whether the call has dropped. He added that Vijay may need time to think the film over, but he was sure how it would end: "He'll like the film; he'll be proud."

Jason has reportedly also spoken before about the film he would want to make if he ever directed his father. He is said to love Vijay's sense of humour, which he sees as a sign of the playful, childlike side his father shows at home. Reports say Jason feels Vijay has slowly moved away from light, relatable roles, and he would like to bring that side back on screen.

Sigma follows Guru, a treasure hunter and radio host who loses everything after a betrayal. To win back what was taken from him, he goes after a Rs 500-crore racket run by the ruthless Kotlapadi Veeraiya Reddy. Guru cannot take on the syndicate directly, so he gathers friends and allies for an elaborate heist. More betrayals and surprise twists then throw the plan off course, and he has to trust his instincts to beat Reddy.

The cast includes Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt and Yog Japee alongside Sundeep Kishan. Thaman S has composed the music. For Jason, Sigma is his first big step into feature filmmaking, and he goes into release week sure of at least one fan at home.
