Sumanth's Mahendragiri Varahi to stream on Amazon Prime Video from October 2

Sumanth's mythological mystery thriller Mahendragiri Varahi is set to start streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It will be available from midnight on October 2, about three weeks after it opened in theatres on September 11, 2026. The quick move to digital gives the film a second chance to find an audience after a lukewarm response in cinemas.

Apart from the original Telugu version, the film will stream in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. That wider language spread could help it reach viewers well beyond the Telugu states. Reports say the story centres on the mysteries around Goddess Varahi and an investigation into a series of unexplained deaths.

Santhosh Jagarlapudi directed the film, which was made under the Rajashyamala Entertainments and Bridge Films banners. Kalipu Madhu and Lakshman are reportedly the producers, and Anup Rubens composed the music. Aishwarya Rajesh, Siddu Jonnalagadda, Malvika Nair and Brahmanandam play key roles alongside Sumanth. The wider cast reportedly also includes Meenakshi Goswami, Vennela Kishore, Rajeev Kanakala and Manju Bhargavi.

The box office numbers tell a tough story. Trade estimates reportedly put the budget at around ₹15 crore, with a worldwide share of ₹6 to 7 crore needed to break even. The film reportedly opened with ₹0.55 crore net in India and had collected about ₹4.61 crore net worldwide by its 20th day, which works out to roughly ₹6 crore gross.

After its first four days, its share reportedly stood at ₹2.45 crore against a break-even mark of ₹6 crore, and the theatrical run stayed below that target. The Prime Video deal now brings the makers another source of revenue, though its value has not been officially disclosed. For fans who skipped the big screen, this weekend is the chance to catch up at home.
