Atlee hints at future film with Jason Sanjay as Sigma opens to a slow weekend

Jason Sanjay, son of star Vijay, has made his debut as a director with Sigma, a heist action drama now playing in theatres across the Tamil and Telugu markets. Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah lead the cast, with Raju Sundaram and Sampath Raj also in key roles, and Lyca Productions is backing the film. Its first weekend, however, has reportedly been a slow one.

According to reports, Sigma made 2.35 crore net in India on its opening day, a Friday that fell on Gandhi Jayanti. Saturdays usually bring a jump, but the film is said to have dropped to 1.50 crore net on October 3, a fall of about 36 percent. That puts its two day India net total at 3.85 crore.

Reports put the film's budget at around 25 to 30 crore, which means only about 12 to 15 percent of the cost has come back from theatres so far. Sigma reportedly needs a big Sunday in the mass centres before the weekday test begins on Monday.

Meanwhile, Atlee, who directed Vijay in Theri, Mersal and Bigil, was asked if he would ever team up with Jason. He reportedly said the two would surely work together and called Jason a "younger brother." He added that they have stories, and that making films is what they know best.

Asked whether he would work with Jason as a director or as a producer, Atlee is said to have answered with a joke. He said it would happen when the right time and the right project come together. He did not confirm any particular film.

For now, the two have not announced any project together. Still, Atlee's words point to a possible team up down the line, even as Jason's first film struggles at the box office.
