Kareena Kapoor turns 46, and Priyanka Chopra leads the birthday wishes

Kareena Kapoor Khan turned 46 on Monday, and the wishes arrived from every corner of her world, from her sister, from her closest friend, and from the actress the industry once insisted was her rival.

Amrita Arora set the tone. She posted a throwback picture with the birthday girl, added another shot of Kareena posing with a menu, and wrote a poem of her own. She called her darling beebo, wished that day or night they would always hold on to each other tight, and signed off with a plain happy birthday bestie. Kareena answered in the comments by calling her friend a poet.

Karisma Kapoor went further back into the family album. She shared an old photograph of the Kapoor sisters on a swing, little Bebo sitting right beside her, and wrote that Kareena is the best sister ever, always side by side, always twinning and winning.

Then came the post that drew the most attention. Priyanka Chopra Jonas picked a picture of Kareena in a colourful, rainbow toned leheriya saree and wrote that there will never be anyone like her. Reports say the photograph comes from Kareena's recent promotional appearance for her film Daayra.

The saree carried its own piece of family history. Kareena later put up a collage placing her leheriya drape next to the very similar one Karisma wore in the 2001 film Zubeidaa, in the song Dheeme Dheeme Gaao.

Priyanka's wish lands differently because of where these two began. On an early season of Koffee with Karan, Kareena asked on air where Priyanka had picked up her accent. Priyanka replied in a later episode that it came from the same place as Kareena's boyfriend's, a nod to Saif Ali Khan and his schooling in the UK. Both have said in the years since that there is no bad blood between them. Long before the jokes, they had already worked together in Abbas Mustan's 2004 thriller Aitraaz alongside Akshay Kumar, where Priyanka won acclaim in the negative role of Sonia Roy and Kareena played Priya Malhotra.
