Yami Gautam asks media not to use AI to alter her photos without consent
Yami Gautam has asked the media and the public not to use AI to edit or enhance her public appearance photos, following the row over a morphed 'Chuttamalle' video from 'Devara'.
Yami Gautam has asked the media and the public to stop using artificial intelligence to edit pictures of her. In a post on X, the actor said photographs from her public appearances should be shared exactly as they were taken, with no AI touch-ups, even when the aim is only to make her look better.
She called it a sincere request and put consent at the centre of it. "Altering or manipulating an individual's image or likeness using AI should not be done without their knowledge and consent," she wrote, and she ended the note by thanking people in advance for respecting her wish. Her post did not name any particular incident.
The timing stands out all the same. Her appeal comes soon after the uproar over a morphed video made from the 'Chuttamalle' song in 'Devara', which reportedly showed Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. Jr NTR came down hard on the doctored clip and warned that legal action would follow against the people who made and shared it. Vijay Deverakonda and Chiranjeevi also spoke out against the misuse of the technology.
Chiranjeevi reportedly went a step further. He is said to have called for stronger support for people hit by such content, including closer work with cybercrime authorities and faster removal of manipulated material.
On the work front, Yami leads 'Nayyi Navelli', a film that mixes family drama, humour and fantasy. She plays Mohini. According to reports, the trailer shows Mohini as a model bride who joins a lively household in Meerut and wins the family over, before the story takes a supernatural turn rooted in Indian folklore. Reports say Yami plays a daayan, a clear break from her recent roles.
Balaji Mohan directs the film, with Aanand L Rai backing it under the Colour Yellow banner together with Amazon MGM Studios. GV Prakash Kumar has reportedly composed the music. Yami has said she is excited for audiences to meet Mohini this Dussehra, and the film is reportedly due in theatres on October 16, 2026.
