Yami Gautam says her National Award has given her a new sense of responsibility

Yami Gautam has opened up about what her National Film Award for Best Actress has meant to her. Speaking at the trailer launch of her upcoming film Nayyi Navelli, the actor said the honour, won for her performance in Article 370, has given her a stronger sense of responsibility towards her work.

Gautam called the award a very big honour and a true validation for any artist in the country. She admitted it would be untrue to claim that nothing had changed since the win. The recognition, she explained, has made her more aware of what an actor owes the audience, and she wants to keep working harder, take on more varied roles and keep earning the love viewers have given her.

Looking back at her journey from a small town, she said there is still a lot left for her to learn. When asked whether the award had her dreaming of an Oscar, she chose not to share her ambitions. Dreams, she said, are best kept to oneself, and she prefers to let her work speak for her.

She also spoke about keeping her feet on the ground. Gautam said the biggest lesson she has learnt is that success comes and goes in its own time, but staying humble is always in one's own hands.

Reports say Gautam won the Best Actress honour at the 72nd National Film Awards for playing NIA officer Zooni Haksar. Article 370 also reportedly took home Best Feature Film and Best Music Direction (Songs), with her husband Aditya Dhar said to have accepted the Best Feature Film award.

In Nayyi Navelli, she reportedly plays a mysterious new bride with superpowers in a horror-comedy directed by Balaji Mohan, with music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Producer Aanand L Rai reportedly said at the event that the industry should not be divided into South and North, Bollywood and Tollywood. The film is reportedly set to release in theatres on October 16.
