Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu is a popular south Indian actor. He is well known as Super Star Mahesh Babu. He is the fourth child of Krishna Ghattamaneni and Indira Devi. His father is a Superstar in Tollywood and has acted and produced many films. His elder brother Ramesh Babu acted in films but could not establish himself as an actor. His elder sister Manjula is an artist, director, and producer. His eldest sister Padmavathi and the youngest sister Priyadarsini are the only family members who did not foray into the film industry. Both his elder sister and youngest sister's spouse are artists in Tollywood. His youngest sister's husband Sudheer Babu Posani is an actor, who acted in Tollywood and Bollywood movies. Mahesh Babu was born on 9th August 1975 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Loyola College, Chennai.  He made his first screen appearance in the year 1979, at the age of 4 with the movie Needa. As an adult, he debuted with the movie Rajakumarudu, released in 1999. He won the prestigious Nandi Award as the Best Male Debut for that film. He did the role of a gangster in PuriJagannadh's film Pokiri(2006), which holds the record for the highest-grossing film ever made in Telugu, and it was the same movie that gave the title Superstar. Murari(2001), Okkadu(2003), and Athadu(2005) have established him as an actor in Tollywood. After this, the actor had a slump in his career. Dookudu(2011) put his career back on track, and from there on it was no looking back for the actor, although he had a couple of failures in between. In his career spanning 21 years, he won 9 Nandi awards and 5 Filmfare awards.  In 2004, the actor along with his fans raided CD shops for selling the pirated copies of his film and assaulted the shopowners. He was booked for the action and was later declared innocent in 2006. The only controversy in the actor's career.  He is married to his co-star in the movie Vamsi and former Bollywood actress Namrata Shirodkar. The couple has two children, a son Gautham Krishna (elder son) and a daughter Sitara (youngest).  The actor did a lot of philanthropy works and was the first one to start the culture of gifting colleagues in the industry. He gives 30% of his annual income to charities, and most of his charity works go un-reported, as is his policy.
