Street Fighter reviews praise the action, split on Vidyut Jammwal's Dhalsim

Street Fighter, the live-action film based on the arcade game, is now playing in theatres. Early reviews are full of praise for its action and its cast. Kitao Sakurai directs.

The story is set in the early 1990s. Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) grew up like brothers but drifted apart, and both end up at the World Warrior Tournament run by M. Bison (David Dastmalchian).

Indian fans will be watching Vidyut Jammwal, who plays the yoga master Dhalsim. Critics are divided on him. One review calls the part tailor made for him. Another says he gets a raw deal and that his fans may leave disappointed.

Centineo earns strong notices as Ken, and Dastmalchian's Bison is singled out as a menacing villain with a streak of humour. Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, Jason Momoa brings warmth to Blanka, and Roman Reigns appears as Akuma. Eric André has fun as Don Sauvage, the ring announcer.

At key moments Sakurai cuts to animation to move the plot forward, a choice that won approval from both reviews. The music drew praise too, and the fights come fast without dragging.
