Reporting Live: critics praise Deven Bhojani, call Parineeti Chopra film predictable

Parineeti Chopra's new film Reporting Live is now streaming on Netflix, and critics have given it a cool reception. They praise co-star Deven Bhojani but find the story predictable.

Dhruv Tripathi directed the film and wrote it with Mihir Jadhav. Chopra plays TV reporter Sandhya Yadav, and Bhojani plays Vinod, her cameraman. While covering a bridge collapse, the two find a link to an illegal sand-mining racket. Threats to their lives and their jobs follow as they try to get the truth on air.

Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain, Shekhar Suman, Nasser and Saswata Chatterjee complete the cast. Hussain and Suman play the men who run Sandhya's news channel. The film runs a little under two hours.

Reviews so far rate it between 1.5 and 2.5 stars. Bhojani gets the warmest words in every review. Most critics found Chopra's lead performance flat.

The main complaint is the writing. Reviewers say the plot gives away its turns well before they arrive, and the newsroom feels built from familiar clichés: the honest reporter, the bosses who bury the story, and a powerful builder who wants it to go away.
