Mithun Chakraborty agreed to Jailer 2 villain role on one condition, Rajinikanth says
Rajinikanth says Mithun Chakraborty first turned down the villain role in Jailer 2 and agreed only if the Superstar would neither beat him nor shoot him on screen. Nelson Dilipkumar's film releases worldwide on October 15, 2026.
Mithun Chakraborty first said no to playing the villain in Jailer 2. He joined only after setting one condition for Rajinikanth: no beating him up and no shooting him.
Rajinikanth told the story at the film's Super Show event. He said that when the producers first approached Mithun, his close friend refused outright and joked that he had no plans to take blows from Rajini.
Things changed at the WAVES Summit, where the two met. Mithun said he had been offered the part and would do it if Rajinikanth wanted him to, and Rajinikanth replied that it would be great. Then came the condition. Rajinikanth said he would check with the director, though he was sure his friend was only joking.
Nelson Dilipkumar directs the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer, with Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian and Anirudh Ravichander composing the music. The film opens worldwide on October 15, 2026.
Action director Chethan D'Souza, known for Kannada films such as Bhageera and Max, said the success of the Fahadh Faasil film Aavesham got him the job. Nelson watched it and asked him to handle the stunts for the Jailer 2 promo. Chethan said Nelson's way of shooting was new to him. The director mostly uses wide, single shots with a static camera, so even a small slip in a fight shows.
Chethan also spoke about the star's humility. Rajinikanth, he said, keeps no bouncers, stands up to talk to anyone, and switched to Kannada as soon as he learned that Chethan came from Mangalore.
