Yo Yo Honey Singh asks Maharashtra Cyber for more time after skipping questioning

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, has asked Maharashtra Cyber for more time to appear before its investigating officer. He was due to be questioned on Monday but did not turn up. The summons is linked to a complaint about remarks he allegedly made on stage during a concert.

The complainant went to the authorities after that performance, and Maharashtra Cyber then issued a summons asking the singer to come in for questioning. The case is still under investigation, and more details are awaited. Reports say Honey Singh had already apologised for the remarks in a video on social media, where he described his comment as a disclaimer against unsafe and unprotected sex.

This is not the first time the singer has faced a controversy. In May, the Delhi High Court asked him to file an affidavit after an organisation called Hindu Shakti Dal filed a petition. The group alleged that he performed an objectionable song during a show at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in 2025.

That song is 'Volume 1', which the petitioner said Honey Singh and Badshah released in 2006. On April 2, the court directed the Central Government to remove its URLs from all social media and sharing platforms. The bench called the track obscene, vulgar and derogatory towards women, said it treated women as sex objects, and ruled that it could not be allowed in the name of artistic freedom or freedom of speech and expression.

Advocate Rupali Panwar, appearing for the petitioner, told the court that the song was freely available online and could be reached even by young children, which she said was harmful to them. She asked for its immediate removal from every platform, including YouTube. It was also submitted that Honey Singh sang two lines of the song at a public concert at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on March 1, 2025. The singer has reportedly denied performing it there.
