Vir Das and Real Kashmir Football Club earn International Emmy nominations

India has landed two nominations at the International Emmy Awards 2026. The nominees were announced on Wednesday. The SonyLIV web series Real Kashmir Football Club is in the running for Drama Series, and comedian Vir Das has earned a nod in the Comedy category for his Netflix stand-up special Vir Das: Fool Volume.

This is Vir's third International Emmy nomination, which makes him the only Indian to be nominated three times. His first came in 2021 for Vir Das: For India. The second came in 2023 for Vir Das: Landing, which went on to win. He also became the first Indian to host the International Emmys ceremony, in 2024. This year, Fool Volume is up against Division Palermo Season 2, Man vs Baby and Old Dog, New Tricks.

The special grew out of a time when Vir actually lost his voice, and he called its journey to the Emmys surreal. Reacting to the news, he thanked Netflix, his team and his audiences, and joked that "the fool keeps getting louder." He also described Fool Volume as a show about silence and what it means to have a voice.

Real Kashmir Football Club stars Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar and Mahesh Mathai. It premiered on SonyLIV in December 2025 and is based on the true story of Real Kashmir FC, the first professional football club from Jammu and Kashmir. The show follows a journalist and a businessman who team up to build the club. In the Drama Series race, it faces A Thousand Blows, Careme and Menem.

Manav called the series one of his favourite projects and said he had always felt it deserved much more attention than it got. He added that he was delighted for the whole team and the effort they put in.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in New York on November 23, 2026. Indian viewers now have two strong reasons to follow the night closely.
