The Vvaan Gives Sidharth Malhotra His Biggest Solo Opening Weekend

Sidharth Malhotra's fantasy action film The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest has reportedly given him his best opening weekend for a film he leads on his own. Reports put the three-day gross at ₹47.16 crore. That is well clear of his earlier solo-led weekend best, Param Sundari, which reportedly opened to ₹33.61 crore gross.

The film released on Friday and grew through the weekend. It reportedly opened at ₹8 crore and collected ₹14.35 crore on Sunday. Mass centres and single screens in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns are said to have driven much of that growth. Trade voices credit Malhotra's loyal fan base, built on action films like Ek Villain, Shershaah and Marjaavaan, along with the response to his dual avatar in the new film.

The weekend figure reportedly makes The Vvaan his third biggest opening weekend overall, behind Brothers at ₹52.08 crore and Ek Villain at ₹50.70 crore. Both of those were multi-starrers. The Vvaan is neither a sequel nor part of a franchise. It is an original fantasy world drawn from Indian folklore, with Malhotra carrying the action, romance and supernatural parts of the story.

The weekdays have held up as well. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the film stayed steady on the crucial Monday, with business down 34.61% from Friday. Monday reportedly brought in ₹5.25 crore, and Tuesday had reached ₹4.83 crore by evening, helped by discounted tickets. Reports put the running total at ₹43.68 crore by 8 PM on Tuesday. That is despite competition from Nani's The Paradise and the Avengers Endgame Encore re-release, with Drishyam The Conclusion arriving on Friday.

The film follows Rishi (Malhotra), a rational engineer from Mumbai, and his wife Mamta (Tamannaah Bhatia) as they travel to his ancestral village of Devanchal in Bihar around Chhath Puja. The way it shows the festival has struck a chord. A viral video from Muzaffarpur reportedly shows viewers leaving their footwear outside before walking into the theatre. Sunil Grover, Avtar Gill and Anup Soni round out the cast. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, but audiences have kept it moving.
