The Raja Saab producer blames Sankranthi release for the film's failure
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad said releasing The Raja Saab during Sankranthi was a fundamental mistake, and also pointed to delayed premieres and a ticket price hike, while calling himself only a distributor for Prabhas' Spirit.
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory has named the Sankranthi release window as one of the main reasons Prabhas' The Raja Saab failed at the box office.
He spoke at a press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday while promoting his next release, Garividi Lakshmi. Asked how he had analysed the horror comedy's failure, he smiled and called the festive season slot "one of the fundamental mistakes," adding that things would have been different on another date.
Timing was not the only problem he admitted to. On release day the premieres ran late, and the team had tried to raise ticket prices, a first for the production house. Vishwa said they should not have done it, because it caused a delay and left people frustrated. He still insisted the film got the best release possible in terms of size and scale.
A reporter then told him Prabhas fans felt let down and asked whether he would make it up to them with Spirit. His reply was short: "I am only a distributor for Spirit."
Sandeep Reddy Vanga directs Spirit, with Triptii Dimri as the female lead opposite Prabhas. The action drama is aimed at a 2027 release.
