Shruti Haasan opens up on nearly marrying, wedding costs and motherhood

Shruti Haasan has opened up about her views on marriage, saying she once came quite close to tying the knot. According to reports, the actor spoke about it during a conversation on Soha Ali Khan's podcast, where she said the idea of marriage itself never scared her. What gives her pause, she reportedly explained, is the paperwork and heavy spending that tend to come with a wedding.

Shruti made it clear that she is not against marriage and values having a partner by her side. She said she has spent a large part of her life pushing back against pressure to fit into a fixed mould, even though parts of her are traditional. For her, real commitment means two people picking each other day after day, and a certificate does not create that bond. Looking back on the time she nearly got married, she said the step felt less frightening than she had imagined.

Big wedding celebrations are where her doubts lie. Shruti questioned the lavish spending, paperwork and show that often surround a marriage, asking, "Who are we doing this for?" She stressed that she was not judging couples who choose grand weddings, but said she would rather see that money go to charity.

Motherhood also came up during the chat. Shruti said she would love to become a mother and is open to adoption, while also hoping to explore having a biological child. She added that this wish does not depend on walking a set path to marriage first.

The daughter of Kamal Haasan, Shruti first faced the camera as a child artist in Hey Ram (2000) and made her Telugu debut with Anaganaga O Dheerudu (2011). She went on to become one of the top leading ladies across the country, with hits such as Gabbar Singh, Race Gurram, Srimanthudu and Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire.
