Sardar 2 streams on Prime Video from October 1, three weeks after release

Karthi's spy thriller Sardar 2 is coming to streaming. The sequel, directed by P S Mithran, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from October 1, and Telugu viewers can watch it in their own language. Reports say it will also be available in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

The film opened in theatres on September 10, so its digital premiere comes just 21 days after its big screen release. The short gap reportedly follows a mixed response in cinemas, and the film is said to have fallen short of box office hopes. Reports put its worldwide collection at around Rs 23.85 crore, with roughly Rs 19 crore from India and about Rs 4.85 crore from overseas markets.

Sardar 2 carries forward the world of Sardar, the 2022 Tamil spy thriller. Karthi returns in a dual role as RAW agent Vijay and his father, Sardar. This time Vijay looks into the disappearance of fellow agent Walrus, who leaves behind a mysterious key before his death. The trail shows that similar keys are tied to several other people and to a much bigger conspiracy.

That hunt puts Vijay up against Black Dagger, an international underworld figure played by S J Suryah, who wants the keys for a dangerous plan involving a biological threat. The cast also includes Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Achyuth Kumar, while Babu Antony plays DRDO chief Tiger Harishchandra. Sam CS has composed the music.

Sardar 2 is part of a packed streaming week from September 28 to October 4. Netflix brings the Telugu dub of the Japanese anime hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle I on September 28, followed by the Telugu film Romanchakam on October 1. JioHotstar has the Telugu dub of the Malayalam hit Bethlehem Kudumba Unit on October 2, and ZEE5 adds the Hindi film Pooja Meri Jaan the same day. Prime Video is also adding the Hindi series Dupahiya Season 2 on October 1.
