Andhadhun 2 only with the right story, says Sriram Raghavan at FICCI Frames

Fans hoping for a follow-up to Andhadhun got a straight answer from Sriram Raghavan at FICCI Frames 2026 in Mumbai. Ayushmann Khurrana starred in the 2018 thriller, and he raised the sequel himself during their session. The director said Andhadhun 2 will happen once they find the right story, one that does not ruin the first film.

The two shared the stage with Denzil Dias, VP and Managing Director of India Theatrical at Warner Bros Discovery. They talked about pressure in the industry and what gets people into cinemas. Raghavan said he chooses not to take on pressure, because there is already plenty of it around. Ayushmann joked that he feels no pressure at all, unless the film is Andhadhun 2.

Raghavan also reportedly said that five or six actors turned down Andhadhun before Ayushmann came on board. According to reports, Ayushmann won the role by saying the film needed an actor, not a star.

Dias explained how Warner Bros Discovery handled Obsession in India. The team first let buzz build overseas and held the Indian release until two weeks after the US one. That date clashed with IPL matches, but no other film was coming out then. The film opened on around 300 screens in its first week, and the team then worked on spreading audience word of mouth. Ayushmann said Obsession felt like a film from Raghavan's own genre and that he was obsessed with it, mostly because of how new its emotion felt.

For Ayushmann, the story comes first. He said the story has been the real superstar of his films ever since his debut. What draws him to a theatre, he said, is something new and strong emotion, whether in comedy, romance or horror. He also reportedly named Hanuman Ansh and Obsession as small-budget films that connected with people, and said word of mouth has to be great, not just good.

Ayushmann's next release is reportedly Udta Teer, a spy comedy with Sara Ali Khan. Akash A Kaushik directs it and Guneet Monga produces it, and it is slated to release on October 9, 2026.
