Rohit Sharma and Anil Kapoor praise Doosra trailer, film releases October 23
Abhinay Deo's Doosra, which links India's 2002 NatWest final win at Lord's with a young girl's story, reaches theatres on October 23, and Rohit Sharma and Anil Kapoor have praised its trailer.
Abhinay Deo's Doosra, a film built around India's 2002 NatWest Series final win over England, will hit theatres on October 23. The makers shared the release date as they put out the film's poster and trailer online.
The story ties Sourav Ganguly's famous shirt-waving celebration on the Lord's balcony to the private life of Tara, a young girl who does not fit in at her conservative home.
Two big names have already backed the trailer. Rohit Sharma recalled that he was 15 when India won that final. "The film 'Doosra' beautifully captures why the moment was more than just winning a match," he said, adding that he could not wait to see it.
Anil Kapoor said he loved the way Abhinay had brought reality and fiction together. He still remembers the thrill of that win, he said, calling it a moment that "gave an entire generation the belief that India could win anywhere, against anyone."
For the director, the film is about freedom of a different kind. Abhinay called Doosra "India's new freedom story," an emotional freedom rather than the political freedom of 1947, and described it as an uplifting tale of a country finding its voice and a young girl finding hers.
Producer Masha Sajdeh said the team was thrilled to finally take the film to the big screen. She hopes audiences will be "entertained, moved and inspired to question long-held conventions."
The film is produced by Masha Sajdeh and Rohan Sajdeh, with Neeta Shah as co-producer. Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal, Samidha Guru, Tvisha Seema and Krishna Gokani make up the cast.
