Anil Kapoor and Sheena Chohan cheer Tom Cruise's Digger at a screening
Anil Kapoor said Tom Cruise's Digger deserves an Oscar and Sheena Chohan praised Cruise's performance after a screening, even as the film struggles at the North American box office.
Anil Kapoor and Sheena Chohan watched Tom Cruise's Digger together at a screening, and both came out full of praise for the film and its lead.
"We all have loved the film and it's insane, it's brilliant, it deserves an Oscar," Anil Kapoor said. The veteran actor has his own link to Cruise. He starred alongside him in the Mission: Impossible film Ghost Protocol.
Sheena called Digger "a wild, non stop ride of drama and comedy with unexpected twists and turns." Cruise's character stayed with her most, and she praised "the sheer intensity, restraint and humanity he brings to the role." She also said the film takes on an important subject, climate change.
Her history with Cruise goes back to 2011. That year he personally invited her to the Mumbai premiere of Ghost Protocol.
The praise arrives while the film is having a hard time in theatres. Reports say the dark comedy opened to just $8 million in North America, the lowest start of Cruise's career. It released on September 25, was made on a $160 million budget and has crossed $20.6 million worldwide.
Both actors have busy slates. Subedaar is among Anil Kapoor's recent work, and the streaming series Family Business is coming up. Sheena was last seen in the Hindi biopic Sant Tukaram and will next appear in the Telugu thriller Jatasya Maranam Dhruvam.
