Ranabaali reviews and ratings disabled on BookMyShow after Bengaluru court order
BookMyShow has switched off ratings and reviews for Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Ranabaali after a Bengaluru court granted interim relief against false and allegedly defamatory content about the film online.
Fans can no longer rate or review Ranabaali on BookMyShow. The Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna film reached theatres on Friday, and its page on the ticketing platform now carries a note saying ratings and reviews have been disabled as per a court order.
The order came from a Bengaluru court on Friday, just ahead of the release. It is an ex parte interim order aimed at false and allegedly defamatory content about the film. X Corp, YouTube, Google India, BookMyShow, IMDb, Facebook India, Meta platforms and unnamed John Doe defendants have all been told not to host or spread such material. The case will be heard again on November 6.
The makers went to court over specific posts and comments they considered defamatory. Their complaint says that once the teaser came out on September 9, negative comments, reaction videos mocking it and claims that the film would flop began appearing online. They called this review bombing and alleged that anonymous accounts and bot networks were being used to push a boycott. These remain the makers' allegations, not findings of the court.
On the film's page, only the 'I'm Interested' and 'Book Tickets' buttons are still active.
Ranabaali is not the only big release in this position. Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and released a day earlier, has also had its reviews and ratings turned off on the platform.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali is a period action drama set under British colonial rule, against the backdrop of the Great Madras Famine of 1876. The story follows a man who rises up against colonial exploitation.
