Ramayana may move to a worldwide November 5 release, days before Diwali

The release plan for Ramayana could be changing once again. The makers of the grand epic are reportedly looking at Thursday, November 5, as the new date, with the film opening in India and overseas on the same day. Reports say the stakeholders are largely on board, and an official announcement would follow once the date gets final approval.

This would be the latest in a series of shifts. The film was first expected in cinemas on November 6. Producer Namit Malhotra later said it would open overseas on November 6 and in India on November 8. The new plan would bring both markets together on a single date.

The timing is what makes the move stand out. Since 2014, most major Diwali releases have arrived a day after the festival, because audiences are believed to stay busy with puja and celebrations on Diwali day itself. Opening three days ahead of the festival would signal strong confidence from the makers. With November 9 being the big holiday after Diwali, the film's extended first week could see a major boost in footfalls if the response is strong.

Ramayana carries a massive cast. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi is Sita and Yash takes on Ravana. Sunny Deol appears as Lord Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal, directs the film, and A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer have composed the music.

The epic is planned as a two-part saga. Part one is set for Diwali 2026 and part two for Diwali 2027. Dharma Productions will distribute the film in India, while Sony Pictures holds the overseas distribution rights.

Until the makers confirm it, November 5 remains a planned window rather than a locked date. For now, all eyes are on the official announcement.
