Rahul Bhatt regrets assaulting Ranvir Shorey, praises him for dropping the case

Rahul Bhatt says he now regrets how he reacted more than 20 years ago, when he assaulted actor Ranvir Shorey after a fight between Ranvir and Rahul's sister, Pooja Bhatt. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan on his podcast, Rahul said he went too far and took the law into his own hands.

Looking back at the 2002 incident, Rahul said Ranvir and Pooja had argued and that Ranvir 'hit her or something like that'. He said he stepped in and overdid it. He smashed the glass of Ranvir's car and broke one of his ribs. He was arrested and charged for the assault, and he said he paid the price for it.

Rahul also praised the way Ranvir handled what came next. He said Ranvir came forward to settle the case and told him to let bygones be bygones. The FIR was then quashed, which ended the criminal case Rahul had been facing. Rahul said most people use a situation like that to get money, but Ranvir did not, and he respects him for it. He admitted he once said he would do it all again, but said that with Ranvir, he should not have.

Ranvir and Pooja were living together at the time, and their breakup became bitter and public. Pooja reportedly accused Ranvir of turning violent after drinking, which he denied. The two had reportedly become close while working on Jism. Ranvir has long said it was Pooja's brother who attacked him. He has also accused Mahesh Bhatt of planting false stories that showed him as an alcoholic and abusive partner.

Ranvir has called the controversy the biggest scandal of his life, including during his time on Bigg Boss. He has reportedly said it made him leave for the US for a while, where he took a six-month acting course. In a later interview, he said it all happened about 25 years ago and there was no point talking about it now.

Pooja married Manish Makhija in 2003, and Ranvir married actor Konkona Sen Sharma in 2010. Both marriages have since ended.
