Nayyi Navelli trailer: Yami Gautam's new bride takes on Ravana before Dussehra

The trailer for Nayyi Navelli is out, and it puts Yami Gautam at the heart of a fantasy comedy that blends a family drama with a showdown against Ravana. Directed by Balaji Mohan, the film builds on the teaser that came before it and is set to reach cinemas on October 16, 2026, just ahead of Dussehra.

Yami plays Mohini, who steps into her husband's family home as the new bahu. Reports say the household is the Awasthi family, and the promo starts on familiar ground, with wedding rituals, strong opinions and a brother-in-law who is quick to mock her. Things soon take a strange turn. According to reports, Mohini wins the family over, changes their luck and even eases the grandmother's knee pain with a single touch, while talk grows that she is a "daayan", a witch.

The trailer then reportedly shifts gear as Mohini faces the demon king Ravana, who is hunting her and vows to snatch Dussehra away and rule the universe. His face stays hidden for now, setting up a good versus evil clash timed for the festive season.

Talking about the role, Yami reportedly said Mohini appealed to her because the character never behaves the way you expect, with warmth on the surface and a mystery that unfolds slowly. She added that the part let her move between family drama, humour, emotion, fantasy and action. The film is reportedly her first release since Haq (2025), and it arrives soon after she won her first National Film Award for Best Actress for Article 370.

The story comes from Himanshu Sharma, with Divy Nidhi Sharma also credited on the writing, and G. V. Prakash Kumar has composed the music. Reports say this is Balaji Mohan's first Hindi film and his return to direction after more than seven years. He is known in Tamil cinema for hits like Maari and Maari 2. Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma are reportedly producing, with Addinath M Kothare, Sunita Rajwar and Susmita Mukherjee among the supporting cast.
