Amitabh Bachchan hurts his knee in a fall during shoot, sits for KBC 18 monologue

Amitabh Bachchan opened the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 with a health update for his fans. The veteran star said he slipped and fell during a shoot the day before and hurt his knee. The show usually opens with him jogging in and delivering his monologue from the centre of the stage, so this time the change was easy to spot.

"Usually, I do my monologue standing at the centre, but today, I have a knee injury," Bachchan told the studio audience. He pointed to his left knee as he described the fall, and the crowd gasped loudly. For a moment the mood in the studio clearly shifted.

The host moved quickly to calm everyone down. He said the injury was not serious and that he would still get up on his feet to host the contestants. He sat for the monologue only because he was having a "little bit of difficulty standing up." The audience wished him a speedy recovery.

After the update, the game carried on. Rollover contestant Shourjya Das reportedly reached Rs 25 lakh before a Rs 50 lakh question left her unsure. It asked which national capital was designed by the architect behind a 1930s library at Lucknow University. She walked away with Rs 25 lakh, and her guess after quitting, Canberra, turned out to be correct.

The knee trouble comes while Bachchan has a busy slate of films. He is reportedly set to return as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, alongside Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, a project Telugu audiences are following closely. Reports say he also has Section 84, a courtroom drama directed by Ribhu Dasgupta with Diana Penty, Nimrat Kaur and Abhishek Banerjee, which is in post-production. Reports also link him to Aankhen 2, though few details are out so far.
