Nana Patekar dies of cardiac arrest at his Goa home, aged 75

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at his home in Goa early on Thursday after a cardiac arrest. He was 75.

He was found unconscious at his residence and rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors there kept up CPR for 45 minutes but could not revive him, and he was declared dead at 5:20 am.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed the death. A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem will be carried out.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, he made his debut with Gaman and grew into one of the most respected names in Hindi and Marathi cinema. His intense screen presence and dialogue delivery set him apart for decades, and his work brought him National Film Awards.

Parinda, Prahaar, Angaar, Krantiveer, Tirangaa, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi, Ab Tak Chhappan and Welcome are among the films audiences remember him for.

The news has left colleagues in the film industry and his fans across the country in shock.
