Kamal Haasan met the team behind Vijay Sethupathi's period drama Baththa on October 7 and congratulated them on the film.

The veteran actor invited Sethupathi, director Balaji Tharaneetharan, producer Atlee, composer Sai Abhyankkar and actors Hari Krishnan and Arjun Chidambaram to the meeting, and praised the effort that went into bringing the film to the screen.

Baththa opened in theatres on October 1 and audiences have warmed to it. Sethupathi's performance has drawn some of the strongest praise, and child actor Sai Prithviraj has become a talking point too.

That response won the film extra screens, and it held most of them into its second week. It has reportedly collected over Rs 15 crore in its first seven days.

Set in Madras in 1986, the story follows a local don and an eight-year-old boy. Lijomol Jose, Ajay Ghosh and Arjun Chidambaram play key roles. This is the third film Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan have made together.

Up next for Sethupathi is Mani Ratnam's romantic drama Inji Vellam, where he stars opposite Sai Pallavi. It reunites him with the director after the 2018 ensemble film Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, in which he played Rasool, and it is Sai Pallavi's first film with Mani Ratnam. Much of it was shot in Kolkata, and the makers have announced a January 2027 release, lining it up for the Sankranti season.
