Nana Patekar dies in Goa days after speaking about mortality at a Dona Paula event

Actor Nana Patekar passed away at his home in Goa early on Thursday, October 8, after a cardiac arrest.

Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital said the actor was found unconscious in his apartment and rushed to a private hospital. Doctors worked for close to 45 minutes to revive him. His heart showed no electrical activity at any stage, the doctor said, and he was declared dead at around 5:10 am. A post-mortem will follow.

On October 4, Patekar had addressed a Samraat Club International function at Dona Paula, near Panaji. There he told the audience that everyone has to leave one day, and that he himself could not say whether he would still be around the next day.

What mattered, he said, was asking himself before that moment came whether he was doing what he wanted to do, and whether he had truly tried.

The actor also used the evening to remember former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, whom he called a friend. Parrikar was younger than him, Patekar pointed out, yet carried such stature that people had to look up to him. He described the late leader as one of those people who live their lives as if on a mission.
