Mirzapur: The Movie holds steady on its fourth Saturday at the box office

Mirzapur: The Movie, the big screen chapter of the popular crime franchise, is still drawing audiences in its fourth week. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the film stars Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu, with Ravi Kishan and Jitendra also in the cast. It picked up again on its fourth Saturday, its 23rd day in cinemas, earning an estimated Rs 1.55 crore to Rs 1.60 crore nett in India.

The running total depends on whose count you follow. One estimate puts the domestic nett collection at Rs 228.67 crore after 23 days, which leaves the film just short of the Rs 230 crore mark. Another tally is lower and places the total at Rs 218.75 crore nett. According to reports, the Saturday figure was a 75 per cent jump over Friday.

The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 90 crore, which would mean a net profit of about Rs 138.67 crore so far. On that basis, reports say it has earned the highest net profit of any film from Excel Entertainment, the banner run by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. On return on investment, however, it reportedly sits fourth for the banner, behind Fukrey Returns, Fukrey and Gully Boy.

Forecasts for the full run also differ. Some trade estimates see the film closing between Rs 225 crore and Rs 230 crore nett, while others think it could move towards Rs 250 crore if it holds firm against Drishyam 3. It is reportedly the third biggest hit of the year so far, behind Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Hanuman Ansh.

Positive reviews and the loyal fanbase of the Mirzapur brand have powered the run. Its success is being seen as proof that a well loved digital series can make the jump to theatres, and more streaming shows are expected to try the same move.
