A family court in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday fined Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh Rs 3,000. He did not appear for a hearing in the maintenance case that his wife, Jyoti Singh, filed against him. The actor is also a BJP MLC in Bihar.

His lawyer, Harivansh Singh, said the case was listed before Additional Principal Judge Kamalapati Prajapati. The lawyer said the actor stayed away because his mother, Pratima Devi, was ill. On his behalf, the defence gave the court a medical certificate from her doctor and asked for mediation.

The next hearing is on November 12.

Jyoti Singh came to court with her own lawyer. Speaking to reporters, she accused her husband of using his influence to make a mockery of the judicial process. "The case was filed four years ago. There is a limit to one's patience. My life has been ruined," she said.

She went to the family court for maintenance on April 22, 2022. The couple married on March 6, 2018.
