Komal Rani Swarnkar hits back at critics over Govinda link, says Roopa is the focus
Komal Rani Swarnkar used a long Instagram note to hit back at celebrities criticising her appearances with Govinda, saying the pair announced a film, Roopa, and not a romance.
Actress Komal Rani Swarnkar has answered the criticism over her public appearances with Govinda. In a long note on her Instagram Stories on Friday, she asked why so many people feel free to comment on the personal lives of the two actors, who are working together on the upcoming film Roopa.
The row grew after Govinda and Komal visited Lalbaugcha Raja together. The visit brought fresh talk about the pair, at a time when there is already speculation around the actor's marriage to Sunita Ahuja. Kashmera Shah and Divya Khossla were among the film industry names who criticised Komal over these outings. Divya reportedly objected to the sindoor seen during the visit and accused Komal, without naming her, of using religion for a personal agenda.
Komal says the outings were only about work. She said that praying to Ganpati Bappa beside her hero for the success of Roopa should not be treated as a scandal or a show. She stressed that the pair had announced a film, not a love affair. She added that they will keep being seen together because they work together, and that if this upsets anyone, "let them burn".
She also asked why these same celebrities had stayed silent on serious matters such as terrorism and politics, yet spoke so loudly about her. She took aim at unnamed actresses whose careers, in her view, have gone cold, and said they are chasing attention by joining other people's controversies. She asked her critics to stop linking themselves to her name. She also said she does not care whether they think she is a good person or a bad one.
Govinda has also defended the visit. He said he went to Lalbaugcha Raja to pray for Roopa and asked people not to spread rumours about his personal life. He has denied any romantic link with Komal and says the two share a working relationship. Roopa is reportedly set to reach theatres in early 2027.
