It comes as a disappointment for all the Karan Johar Fans, who were eagerly waiting for his upcoming movie Takht. The project has been shelved by Karan Johar owing to reasons deemed fitting for the moment. Most of the audience doesn’t surely know most of the film directors. But Karan Johar is one exception to it. He’s pretty famous, and his little appearance as the director of a film can up the hype. Movies so far directed by him, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010), Student Of The Year (2012), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) did not merely hit but are fondly cherished even now for its plot, execution, performances, and music.

There was a lot of excitement among moviegoers and the industry when Karan announced his next directorial, Takht, in August 2018. The movie was a grand, period drama. It featured as many as seven notable actors such as Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Bhumi Pednekar. The reason behind shelving the product includes the cost of the film, which is expected to be around Rs. 250-300 crores. Like any other producer, even Karan had to bear losses due to Covid-19. At this point, when his other movies are lined up for release or are in the shooting phase, he thought it Takht would be a risk and shelved it.
