Jailer 2 trailer out: Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian, film opens October 15

Superstar Rajinikanth is back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, and the theatrical trailer of Jailer 2 is finally out. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer is set to reach theatres worldwide on October 15, 2026. The trailer promises a bigger and more action-heavy ride, built around Rajinikanth's trademark style and mass moments.

Going by reports on the trailer, several gangsters are hunting Muthuvel Pandian after the events of the first film. He reportedly goes into exile and takes up work as a driver, where he is mocked again and again. It then emerges that he is quietly working to wipe out the underworld network by drawing all his enemies under one roof. Nelson's trademark humour sits alongside darker confrontations and larger action blocks.

The cast has grown as well. Vidya Balan and Suraj Venjaramoodu are among the prominent new faces, and SJ Suryah also stands out in the trailer. Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu return from the first film, while Mirnaa and Mithun Chakraborty play key roles. Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna are reportedly part of the cast too.

The sequel also carries serious star power in special appearances. Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Vijay Sethupathi are linked to the film, while reports say Hrithik Roshan will also be seen in a cameo. The makers have kept several major surprises and character details away from the promotions, which has only added to the curiosity.

Anirudh Ravichander is back on music, and his background score gives the trailer's mass moments an extra push, following an album that has already raised expectations. Sun Pictures is producing the film. The first Jailer reportedly crossed the Rs 600 crore mark worldwide and became one of Rajinikanth's biggest box office hits.

The Telugu version will reportedly be released by Sithara Entertainments, with the film said to arrive in the Dussehra season. With the trailer now out, the countdown to Muthuvel Pandian's next battle in theatres has begun.
