Jailer 2 opens October 15 on huge pre-sales as Drishyam 3 slows down

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 arrives in theatres on October 15 as one of the most anticipated films of the year. Its worldwide advance bookings have climbed past ₹72 crore, and one estimate puts the figure for the opening weekend above ₹80 crore.

Within India, Tamil Nadu leads pre-sales with ₹13.73 crore, ahead of Karnataka at ₹8.93 crore and Kerala at ₹7.26 crore. Telangana has added ₹3.71 crore and Andhra Pradesh ₹2.91 crore, taking the all-India total to about ₹38.62 crore. Overseas markets have brought in more than $3.5 million, with strong demand from North America.

Forecasts for the opening vary. Reports say the sequel could make anywhere from ₹120 crore to ₹140 crore on release.

Nelson Dilipkumar directs the film for Sun Pictures. Rajinikanth is back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, and Anirudh Ravichander composes the music. The 2023 original was a major commercial hit.

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 has lost steam in its second week as the big Tamil release gets closer. The thriller earned ₹4.46 crore on its second Wednesday, its weakest day yet, and its total now stands at ₹327.96 crore.

Even so, it is the highest-grossing film of Ajay Devgn's career. Its ₹66.75 crore net opening day was his best ever start and the third biggest for any Hindi film.
