The news is abuzz that Popular filmmaker Gunasekhar, is on the hunt for a Pan India star to play the role of Dushyant in his upcoming mythological magnum opus, Shaakuntalam. The movie has been making all the right noises ever since its beginning for the right reasons. The movie garnered the much-needed hype after Samantha gave her nod to play the titular role of Shakunthala. Initially, it was Pooja Hegde, who was chosen for the role, but she softly refused the role as she had other commitments. It turned out to be Pooja's loss is Samantha's gain.

This epic tale of love has created much of the hype as it has been awaited for a long time, and was once considered a dream project for any director. With the lady lead confirmed, now all eyes are on the male lead for the film. The news is rife that Gunasekhar is looking for a Malayalam or a Tamil hero with a pan-Indian charisma to play the male lead. An official announcement regarding the same is expected soon. Neelima Guna, daughter of Gunasekhar’s turns producer with this film. Mani Sharma is going to compose music for the film.
