Hanuman Ansh was the biggest Hindi earner at the Indian box office in September, and Mirzapur The Movie was close behind in second place.
The devotional drama came out in August and started slowly. Then word of mouth took over, and its collections kept climbing week after week. Reports say it ended the July to September quarter as the highest-grossing Indian film, with more than 300 crore net in India.
Mirzapur The Movie went past the 200 crore mark. The big-screen version of the streaming series had a head start, because viewers already knew its characters well. Even so, it did better than anyone expected.
These two films kept cinemas busy through September. Both grew after release, as people who watched them told others to go, and neither needed a huge opening to build its run.
