Anupam Kher shares lunch and a gifted cap with Robert De Niro in the US

Veteran actor Anupam Kher made time for an old friend during his travels across North America. While touring with his musical play Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane, he visited Hollywood great Robert De Niro, who hosted him for lunch at his home along with his partner Tiffany. Kher later posted photos and videos from the afternoon on social media.

One of the clips shows De Niro handing Kher a cap as a present. In his post, Kher said he could not come to America without seeing the man he called his dearest friend and the world's finest actor. He described the visit as one of the most special moments of his trip to America and Canada.

Kher also thanked his host at length. He spoke warmly about the meal, their conversations and the time De Niro gave him, adding that whenever they meet, the admirer in him gets just as excited as the friend. He said he feels "truly fortunate" to call De Niro a friend, sent his love to Tiffany and the whole family, and saved a special thank you for the cap, saying the gesture meant the world to him.

Kher is reportedly in New York for the current leg of the tour. Fans reportedly filled the comments with excitement, with many calling it a meeting of two legends.

The bond between the two actors reportedly began when they worked together on the 2012 Hollywood film Silver Linings Playbook, directed by David O Russell, and they have backed each other's work in the years since. According to reports, De Niro attended the New York premiere of Tanvi The Great, directed by Kher, in June 2025. The pair also reportedly met at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May 2025, where De Niro was given the Palme d'Or for Lifetime Achievement.
