Vasanth is the son of a wealthy MP named Gajapathy, who is firmly against love marriages. Vasanth enjoys an easy, cheerful life in Chennai until the day he and a stranger both run to save a baby from falling onto a railway track. He is drawn to the girl and soon sees her again at his college. Her name is Heena, a Bengali girl who speaks Tamil.
Around the same time, a plot is set in motion to kill Gajapathy at a public gathering. Heena makes a harmless joke about a bomb in her bag, a remark that comes back to trouble her. Vasanth must decide how far he will go for her, with his father's views standing in the way.
