Vivek Athreya

Vivek Athreya is a Telugu film director and screenwriter who also works as a lyricist. Also known as Rayaprolu Vishnu Vivek, he is best known for directing Brochevarevaru Ra (2019), Ante Sundaraniki (2022) and Saripodhaa Sanivaaram (2024). His first feature, Mental Madhilo (2017), earned him a nomination for Best Debut Director (Telugu) at the South Indian International Movie Awards. Athreya began his career with Mental Madhilo in 2017, a film he directed and wrote himself, handling both its story and its screenplay. Two years later he made Brochevarevaru Ra (2019), again serving as director and story writer. In 2021 he wrote the story for Govinda Govinda. He then directed Ante Sundaraniki (2022) and wrote its screenplay. With Saripodhaa Sanivaaram (2024), he took charge of the story, the screenplay and the direction. Athreya is known as a writer-director who shapes his own material. Every film he has directed carries his name as a writer, whether for the story, the screenplay or both, and his work with words extends to song lyrics as well. That habit of building a film from the page up has defined his place in Telugu cinema since his debut, and the 2017 nomination for Mental Madhilo remains the first honour attached to his name.
