Superstar Rajinikanth's latest film, Vettaiyan, received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. The film, directed by TJ Gnanavel, was released on October 10, 2024, as a Dussehra special.

In a recent interaction with the Telugu media, the director expressed his preference for creating a prequel rather than a sequel. He suggested that Vettaiyan could delve into Athiyan's journey, showcasing how he became an encounter specialist, Fahadh Faasil's evolution into a thief and police informant, and other important elements of the backstory.

The film features Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Rana Daggubati, and others in key roles. It had a pan-Indian release and includes music by Anirudh Ravichander. Produced by Lyca Productions, Vettaiyan is a high-budget project.
