Srikanth Odela Reveals the Childhood Story Behind Nani's Jadal Braids

Director Srikanth Odela has revealed where Nani's striking braided look in The Paradise came from, and the answer is deeply personal. Just hours before the film's premieres, the filmmaker posted a childhood photo of himself with braided hair on X, explaining that the character Jadal grew out of his own early years.

"Jadal's birth and battle might be fictional… but his braids & look were inspired from my childhood," Odela wrote. He added that many scenes in the film are shaped by memories from the time he was growing up.

The story behind the braids starts with his mother. She grew his hair long and tied it into braids until he was about five or six years old. As he got older, Odela kept imagining how a hero with braids would look in a big commercial film on the 70MM screen. Years later, that boyhood idea has become Jadal, played by the actor he calls "Nani Anna".

For Odela, the old photo means much more than a snapshot from his past. "This picture is my Paradise," he wrote, as he welcomed audiences to the film.

The braided look first drew attention when it reportedly featured in the film's raw statement announcement video, which set off plenty of curiosity around the project. Reports say The Paradise is set to open worldwide with premieres within hours, followed by a wide release the next day. The film has also reportedly already recorded the biggest Day 1 gross of Nani's career through its premieres and advance bookings.

With this reveal, fans heading into theatres now know that Jadal's most talked about feature began with a mother braiding her young son's hair.
