Ranvir Shorey files police complaint over emailed death threats
Actor Ranvir Shorey has lodged an official complaint with the Mumbai Police after threatening emails followed his public criticism of the CJP protest.
Ranvir Shorey has taken a formal complaint to the Mumbai Police after threatening emails reached him in the wake of his comments on the CJP protest.
He confirmed the step on X on Tuesday. The matter now sat with the Mumbai Police, he told followers, and he thanked everyone who had worried about his safety.
Before that, the actor posted screenshots of the mails, sent from two separate accounts, and tagged Cyber Dost and Maharashtra Cyber so they could look into them. The messages were full of abuse. One sender said they were keeping watch on where Shorey went and warned that he would be attacked once the moment was right.
Mumbai Police replied to him in public. They said they had followed his account and asked him to pass on his contact details by direct message. Shorey wrote back that he was sending them and thanked the force.
The threats started after Shorey objected to the CJP carrying its protest onto the streets. A party should prove its strength in Parliament and at the ballot box, he argued, and go to the courts if those routes looked unfair. Taking over roads and holding public services and policing to ransom, in his view, was the real damage to democracy.
