Rakul Preet Singh Denies Any Link to Income Tax Searches on Bhagnani Offices

Rakul Preet Singh has publicly rejected reports that tied her to the recent Income Tax searches, saying the action had nothing to do with her. The actress posted a clarification on social media, called the stories false and said she has no part in the matter.

The searches took place on September 28 at several locations connected to her father-in-law, producer Vashu Bhagnani, and to Panorama Studios in Mumbai. Reports say officials covered 12 places over suspected financial irregularities and are checking whether money was sent abroad in the name of funding films. Vashu Bhagnani was also reportedly hospitalised in London after two days of searches.

In her statement, Rakul pointed to her Armed Forces family background and said she came into films without a godfather, building her career through hard work. She described herself as a law-abiding citizen who has paid her taxes since the age of 20.

The actress firmly denied any role in illegal foreign remittances, whether on her own behalf or for any production house. She said she does not hold benami property for anyone, either in India or abroad. She added that she has never accepted expensive property as a gift, because such gifts go against her principles.

Rakul also took aim at sections of the media for running sensational stories without checking the facts. She asked publications that carried what she called false and speculative claims to take them down and set the record straight. She accepted that media houses face commercial pressure, but said that pressure should never come at the cost of facts, a person's reputation or their livelihood.

On the work front, she was reportedly last seen in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Reports say she plays Shurpanakha, the sister of Ravana, in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
