Raja Kumari turns music director with the English-language film Impure

American musician Raja Kumari is taking on a new role. Her work in "Jawan" won her fans across India, and "They Call Him OG" made her a familiar name with Telugu audiences. Now she has become a music director for the first time, with the English-language film "Impure". She shares the composing credit with Karan Pandav.

Her part in the film goes beyond composing. She sings and raps on "OMG", the film's Sangeet number, and also appears in a special cameo. Kadali Sathyanarayana has written the Telugu lyrics for the track. The song takes the old complaint that women are "too much" and turns it around, telling men to rise to meet women instead of asking women to make themselves smaller.

Nishanthi Evani directs "Impure", and Yashna, Varahi and Sai Krishna play the lead roles. Varahi Mallipamula wrote the story and produced the film with her mother, Sridevi Mallipamula. The film is in English, but everyone in front of and behind the camera is desi.

The film questions the belief that purity can be measured by old rules and traditions. It shows how chasing connection, dreams and passion can end in devastating ways. The trailer suggests the makers take a bold look at today's social issues, told through comedy.

Director Nandhini Reddy launched the trailer at the film's pre-release event and wished the mother and daughter producers a successful debut. Varahi has been promoting the Sangeet song herself, and recently danced to it at Times Square with a group of American dancers. "Impure" releases in theatres on October 2.
