Fans of Nagarjuna's golden era have a date to circle. Geethanjali, the Mani Ratnam romance starring Nagarjuna and Girija Shettar, is heading back to cinemas in 4K on November 13, 2026. The re-release comes with upgraded picture and sound, so viewers can enjoy the 37-year-old film on the big screen again.

Getting here took a while. The film was earlier set for August 28, 2026, but that plan was pushed back. Reports say the August slot was chosen to fall right before Nagarjuna's birthday on August 29, and that the delay came because the team wanted more time on restoration to get the visuals and audio just right.

That was not the first attempt either. According to reports, a 4K return was first announced in October 2025 for November 14, 2025, but it never happened. Annapurna Studios has reportedly now confirmed the fresh date, with Shree Padmini Cinemas handling the re-release. The film was reportedly made under the Bhagyalakshmi Enterprises banner.

Released in 1989, Geethanjali is said to be Mani Ratnam's only direct Telugu film. As reports describe it, the story follows two terminally ill people who fall in love and decide to live fully, even though they know their time together is short. Ilaiyaraaja's music remains one of the film's biggest strengths, and Girija Shettar's performance, reportedly her debut, is still fondly remembered.

The look of the film is another big draw. Reports credit PC Sreeram's cinematography with capturing the misty hills of Ooty, and the restored frames are expected to shine with today's theatre technology. For longtime fans it is a trip down memory lane, and for younger audiences it is a first proper big screen look at a Telugu classic. Further updates on the release are expected.
