Johnny Depp turns into Ebenezer Scrooge in eerie new A Christmas Carol trailer

Johnny Depp is back on the big screen, and this time he plays one of literature's most famous misers. The trailer for Ebenezer, a new film version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, is now out. It shows a darker and scarier side of the classic story. The film is reportedly directed by Ti West.

Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge, a very rich but sour man who cares about money more than anything else. The trailer shows his family trying and failing to get close to him. It also shows him turning away people who ask him to give to charity. On Christmas Eve, the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley, played by Ian McKellen, visits him. Marley warns Scrooge to change his ways before it is too late.

The basic shape of the tale stays the same. Three spirits then come to Scrooge, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. They make him face old memories, look hard at how he lives now, and see the future waiting for him. The trailer gives a taste of these supernatural visits.

The supporting cast is strong. Rupert Grint plays Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's clerk, and Sam Claflin plays Fred, his nephew. Andrea Riseborough plays the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Tramell Tillman plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. Reports say the cast also includes Arthur Conti as the young Ebenezer, Daisy Ridley as Fred's wife and Ellie Bamber as Isabel Fezziwig.

Fans have welcomed the trailer warmly. Many praised Depp's change into the bitter old man. Others liked that the film does not shy away from the horror in Dickens' original. "Johnny Depp doing what he does best," one viewer wrote.

The film is reportedly set to open in theatres on November 13, 2026, which means fans will not have long to wait for this spooky take on a holiday favourite.
