'Jersey' Star Nani Confident That Shahid Kapoor's Hindi Remake Will Be A 'blockbuster'

'Jersey' star Nani confident that Shahid Kapoor's Hindi remake will be a 'blockbuster'; says 'it is and always will be my film'

Shahid Kapoor and team 'Jersey' announced on Tuesday that they have postponed the release of their film that was slated for a New Year's Eve release.

The news about the delay for the fourth time comes amid a surge in the COVID19 cases in the country and concerns over the Omicron variant. "In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines, we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film 'Jersey'. We have received immense response from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!" the statement read.

While fans took to social media to express their disappointment, South star Nani, who played the lead in the original Telugu version of the film, cheered for Shahid and the team behind the Hindi remake.

In an interview, Nani admitted that although he has not watched the film, he is confident of its success. "Jersey will do very well and [I am] sure it will be a blockbuster,"

While he did share his enthusiasm to see what the makers have done in this new remake, he got a little protective of his film and character, saying, "Jersey is and always will be my film."

Also starring Mrunal Thakur, the film was originally scheduled for a release in August 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. The makers then announced another release date during Diwali but it was postponed for a third time to December 31.

Directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original, 'Jersey' chronicles the story of a talented but failed cricketer who decides to return to the field in his late 30s driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift.
