Imran Khan told to leave India by October 28 after Mumbai protest

Actor Imran Khan has been served a notice to leave India by October 28, after he joined a protest in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Imran, Aamir Khan's nephew, holds US citizenship. Police detained him at the October 10 demonstration. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya then filed a complaint saying the actor had broken the Foreigners Act, because a US citizen had taken part in a political protest.

Reports say his lawyers plan to approach the Bombay High Court by Friday or Monday. The petition is expected to argue that no law stops an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder from joining a protest. An OCI card lets foreign nationals of Indian origin live in India long term, but it does not make them citizens or give them the right to vote.

A screenshot also spread on X, claiming Imran had posted on Instagram that he was offered Rs 15 lakh to post against the Modi government. Many users dismissed it as a fake, AI-generated image.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the CJP, wrote on X that an American, Mary Millben, is free to speak in favour of the BJP, while Imran, an OCI cardholder, cannot say anything against it.

The actor has not responded publicly to the notice.
