Comrade Kalyan review: Sree Vishnu and Satya carry a passable comedy

Sree Vishnu's Comrade Kalyan is out, and early reviews call it a time-pass comedy. The laughs he shares with Satya hold it up, while a slow stretch after the interval and a weak climax pull it down.

Comrade Kalyan, the new Sree Vishnu comedy, is getting early reviews that call it a time-pass watch. What holds it together is the fun Sree Vishnu and Satya have on screen.

Sree Vishnu plays Kalyan, a village man who leases a theatre and runs it. He falls for Sitara, an Odia girl played by Mahima Nambiar, after she comes to his help. While he tries to win her over, he ends up with a group of Naxals and has to survive among them. That is how the ordinary villager becomes Comrade Kalyan.

The film does not take a serious look at Naxalism. It goes for comedy instead, and both reviews count that in its favour. Satya's scenes get the most praise. Sree Vishnu plays the part with ease, and his timing makes even thin lines work.

The complaints are the same in both reviews. The pace drops in parts of the second half, and the climax does not land.

Radhika, Shine Tom Chacko and Upendra Limaye are also in the cast.
